I AM
The ASE Foundation is a foundation that provides career guidance, upliftment, and strategic direction to assist pupils, students, young professionals, and adults from all walks of life. My passion to inspire and assist people stems from my background in striving to become a Chartered Accountant.
My motto in life is to become the mentor I needed when I was growing up and to show up as my true authentic self to help those in need in the best way I can.
My life has been based on the scripture Proverbs 3:5-6 which says “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways, acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”. In every decision I have taken, God has always been my center and my focus.
The foundation is built on prayer and gratitude. I would like to grow this foundation to reach millions of lives and to truly make an impact in this world, one person at a time. My purpose for this foundation is to uplift, empower and motivate those to live out their full potential.
My ultimate dream is to have a bursary that would fund students to live out their dreams either at school, university, or through entrepreneurship.
MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME
I remember the first session I had with you, like it was yesterday, I was so clueless, and had no hope of passing the final year and getting into CTA. You instilled confidence in me, I never knew I had. You gave me hope and courage, which is something I hadn’t had since 2019. The sessions with you helped me improve my self-confidence in my studies, and having a positive mind, almost all the time, and that I can achieve anything that I set my mind to.

When we started the journey, I was quite lost, afraid, and very demotivated. You’ve made me aware of the ASE foundation and I’ve decided to change my mindset to a more positive aspect therefore I joined the programme. I must say that it made a huge impact on my life. I developed a positive way of thinking as well as the skills to plan out my goals and accomplish them from time to time. The ASE foundation keeps you disciplined and motivated, it reminds you that you are not in this alone. Sharing your goals pushes you to not only make yourself proud but make the person that you’ve shared it with feel satisfied by the time and effort they put into helping you reach that goal.

If I am being honest, within the foundation I would consider myself the most demanding mentee from everyone else. I mean, I came first about to write my supplementary exam with little to no hope, just became a father and now just recently wrote a supplementary exam. But despite all of this, my mentor taught me nothing less than staying positive and always believing that something good will come out as long as “there is still a fighting chance”. I have grown into believing more in prayer and taking more chances in things I considered difficult or even far away from my reach. The foundation has helped me believe that I can also achieve greater things, I am more of a believer now and trying by all means to stay positive as long as there is still a way to give in a last push. I mean I would have never thought that after writing that Accounting 2 supplementary exam I would be offered a training contract in one of the big 4 audit firms. No one would have even believed that, but as my mentor you made me see it and go for it!

When I joined the ASE foundation I was down and out, cliché as it might sound but that’s exactly where I was. I had lost all hope and zeal in my professional career and success in general. I had failed the SAICA exam multiple times and even though I was busy preparing for the exam, to me there was no way I was going to make it, I was ready to kiss my dream of being a CA(SA). Having joined the foundation and after a couple of mentoring sessions my mindset about failure and setbacks started to change, my attitude changed, and I believed in myself again. What once seemed like an impossible mission was now a milestone I couldn’t wait to reach. Through the foundation, I now had a clear goal and a plan of action in place, and day in and day out I stuck to the action plan. Story cut short, yes, I did pass my exam but before I passed the actual exam I had to pass/ win the battle in my mind and I know for a fact that I wouldn’t have done this if it wasn’t for the foundation. Even though this remains the highlight of my journey with the foundation, I also grew so much as a professional, my confidence improved, and my zeal was restored. I am a whole person now ready to soar and flourish in my career.

When I started my journey with ASE Foundation, I was very negative and felt very trapped in the situation I was in. This was one of the reasons why I asked to join as I felt I need to speak to someone to try and guide me. After my first session with Andrea, I started changing my attitude towards things I faced and accepting things as learning curves to grow. I have grown in my career and constantly looking to improve.

Before I was introduced to the ASE Foundation, I had little to no hope that I would make it to 3rd year and do the 4 modules as I had to obtain 60% in Accounting. Seeing some of my friends and people I thought were doing better than me saying that they could not get the 60% made it look impossible for me to attain it. But through the help of the Foundation, and the first-ever meeting I had with Mrs. Erasmus, it just became very much possible and easy to attain. My perspective completely changed and I “went to that supplementary exam having already achieved that 60%”. Her exact words were, “You have already passed accounting 2, and you are going to 3rd year.” The foundation gave me hope, and instilled a mindset of faith, which is something I still pray for that God grant me even when I fall short. Professionally, I would say the Foundation has helped me learn to communicate well and share stuff that I thought was uncomfortable to talk about. The call that always encourages you to share anything that might be bothering you, it is just something you could ever wish for. After I told her about my becoming a teenage father I just felt like some weight was lifted from my shoulders. Even though I am still learning more about becoming a professional, I believe always having a lifelong learning mindset is one of the important attributes I should embrace.
